Dear Parents,
St. Gerard Majella School is an archdiocesan parochial school that primarily serves the educational needs of the parish children from Grade Kindergarten through Grade Eight. In light of the Church's mission to evangelize, a limited number of non-Catholic students may be considered for enrollment.
SGM School is committed to providing a solid religious program that is consistent with the tenets of the Catholic faith and which is directly linked to the SGM parish mission statement. SGM School is also committed to providing an academic program that is solid, enriching, and challenging…ever responsive to the potential and the unique needs of the individual student within a general classroom setting.
The success of a child’s experience in a Catholic school is built around mutual respect, support, and communication between parents and the school/parish staff.
In the area of faith and living, parents are the strongest influence and example for their children. Consistent participation in the sacramental life of the Church is crucial to a child’s faith development. Family participation in weekly Sunday liturgy, sharing of time and talent, responsible financial stewardship, and participating in parish service/outreach projects are expected.
Parental interest in and support of the educational endeavors of their children are a strength and an asset in helping children develop an appropriate and positive attitude toward education. Parents of children enrolled in our school are expected to support the efforts of the school's staff and the school’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook. Parents are also expected to participate in parent/teacher conferences and attend scheduled parent meetings.
Posted on the right is a copy of the Archdiocesan Parent Witness Statement, Student Witness Statements, and our Parent/Student Handbook. I ask that you read it carefully, discuss it with your children, and use it as a reference throughout the year. St. Gerard Majella school policies and procedures are consistent with and guided by Archdiocesan school policies which, when appropriate, are referenced and in italics. The Parent/Student Handbook contains established policies and procedures for the 2008-2009 school year. Since it is not possible for a Handbook to address every situation that may arise during a school year, the school administration reserves the right to amend or revoke policies and procedures in this Handbook at any time as circumstances may require. When changes are made to the Handbook, parents and students will be informed of the change in writing in a timely manner, and this will include a statement about when the change will take effect.
By registering your child in our school, you have elected to place your child in an environment of faith and learning where values, attitudes, and skills acquired and practiced today will serve your child well into his/her future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jane Koberlein
Principal
