SGM SCHOOL LOCAL TV STATION
"SGM NEWS"
St. Gerard Majella School has a local TV station. Morning prayer and announcements are broadcast daily over this station in all the classrooms.
Eighth grade students research, write script, anchor, and serve as audio/video technicians. Students from all grade levels (even Kindergarten!) provide feature segments on a regular basis. Parents, community leaders, and parishioners have also been featured in guest segments.
If your parish ministry or organization would like to do a live feature or tape a segment for KSGM News, contact our KSGM moderators: Miss Anne McCormack (Gr. 3-8 computer teacher) or Mrs. Weckback (Spanish Teacher).
SGM SCHOOL LIBRARY
St. Gerard Majella School has an extensive school library coordinated and staffed by parents and parishioners. Students have regularly scheduled library time each week.
All books and acquisitions are electronically catalogued and circulated. Student issued nametags worn on lanyards also serve as personalized SGM bar-coded library cards which are used to electronically check out and return books. (Checking out a good book at SGM library is just a "heartbeat" away!) This capability allows us to track usage of books in our library on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
Proceeds from our Fall APT sponsored Book Fairs help continually maintain, improve, and enhance our current selection of available books. Students have the opportunity to donate a book to the library on the occasion of their birthday.
If you would like to be part of our library volunteer staff or make a donation to our school library, contact us through the links on this site or call the school office.
SGM SCHOOL FOCUS 2008-09
"Building Fellowship, Faith, Wisdom"
Each school year, we focus on a particular topic that will help students learn to respect and get along with others, realize personal potential, develop a sense of responsibility, and deepen their faith experience. In addition, each quarter we focus on an aspect of that topic that helps students put words, thoughts, and discussions into action. Teaching, reinforcing, and encouraging appropriate and community building ways of behaving are emphasized.
SGM focus themes for 2008-09 are:
Quarter 1 - Kind Words (reflecting Jesus in what I say)
Quarter 2 - Right Actions
(reflecting Jesus in what I do)
Quarter 3 - Engaging Thoughts (reflecting Jesus in what I think)
Quarter 4 - Generous Hearts (reflecting Jesus in what I feel)
Focus assemblies are held four times a year. Focus themes are addressed. Individuals, classes, and various groups of children are acknowledged for religious, service-oriented, academic, artistic, and athletic accomplishments.
